The Ashbourne gallery is celebrating ‘the month of love’ with a ‘Heart to Art’ exhibition from 7th Feb–2nd March 2014 (Tue-Sat 10am-5pm; Sun 10am-4pm)

The focus is on traditional printmaking methods by renowned British artists with etchings by Phil Greenwood RE; mezzotints by Terence Millington; original limited edition silkscreens, with collage and hand painting by Bruce McLean; original limited edition silkscreens by Donald Hamilton Fraser RA; and limited edition silkscreens by Patrick Hughes.

McLean’s recent work explores nature, flora and plant forms. Hand-painting and collaged elements give texture and depth, and make each piece unique. His perfectly balanced dynamic compositions have an abstract quality, whilst the floral subject matter adds tranquility and serenity.

Terence Millington’s favoured subject matters are landscape and still life. His mezzotints, created through a process that is virtually extinct today, are highly individual, jewel-like images that capture the innate character of an object.

Phil Greenwood is inspired by landscape and concerned primarily with re-creating mood and atmosphere rather than literal representation. The heart theme shows Patrick Hughes at his romantic best.

A preview evening will be held on 7th February, 4pm-8pm. Visit www.stjohngalleryandcafe.co.uk
