The High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Mr David Coleman, and his wife Hilary hosted two receptions to mark his year in office

A former Chief Constable of Derbyshire, Mr Coleman had arranged to hold the events at Derbyshire Constabulary’s headquarters, Butterley Hall near Ripley. On a lovely weekend at the start of July, the fine weather enabled guests to explore a fascinating display of the vehicles and equipment employed by today’s police force.

The High Sheriff’s charities for the year include The High Sheriffs’ Fund, which awards grants to local voluntary groups and charities and the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation, which co-ordinates Mountain Rescue in the Peak District and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. He embarked recently on the major fund-raising activity of his year in office, a sponsored walk around the entire boundary of Derbyshire, believed to be some 250 miles. Mr Coleman also hopes to record the route and produce a guide which will be sold to raise funds. For details see www.derbyshirehighsheriff.co.uk or www.bmycharity.com/HighSheriffsWay.
