Over 400 guests attended a glamorous charity ball at The Hillbark Hotel in the Wirral. Organised by Louise and Gavin Attwood, the ‘Hillbark for Haiyan’ event was in aid of raising money for the typhoon disaster in the Philippines.

Entertainment for the evening included Heswall-born singer Rory Taylor and his band 54321, a fire juggler and magicians. Children from West Kirby Primary School also sang at the ball. In all, around £14,500 was raised for disaster relief.

Louise and her husband, who are both teachers, said: ‘We don’t work for a charity but after watching the news of Typhoon Haiyan and having done some travelling in the Philippines, we decided to organise something to help. It was a fantastic party and we received so much help from friends and businesses who donated amazing prizes for the raffle and auction.’
