Promotional feature: Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is a long-standing government programme for business growth. John Corlett, KTP Manager at Oxford Brookes University, gives his top five reasons to get involved.
At Oxford Brookes we work with companies to bring them new technologies and capabilities, using our research and expertise in carefully-structured projects supported by government funding.
How a KTP with Oxford Brookes University could develop your business:
1. to increase profit
The latest national survey from Innovate UK shows an average annual increase in profit before tax in excess of £550k.
2. to attract talent
If you’re in engineering or IT, among other areas, you’ll recognise the challenge of attracting bright new people. With KTP, there’s the winning combination of an exciting project and support from a university that can appeal to the best young talent around. For each of our projects we recruit a KTP Associate who is a recent graduate, and in most cases they go on to work for the company when they finish.
3. to spread risk
Smart companies look to mitigate the risk of R&D or business development by seeking an experienced partner, or perhaps some external funds. KTP comes with both: experts from the university, and up to 67% funding from government. The result is an ‘innovation platform’ to explore new opportunities in a safe and manageable way.
4. to find partners
Once a relationship is established in a KTP, companies find wider benefits from partnership with a university – perhaps students on projects and placements, staff to consult on technical issues, or access to lab and workshop equipment.
5. to be noticed
The outcome of a KTP can be a product or process that is seen to be tested and validated; this can raise the profile of a business, demonstrate credentials and enhance reputation.
