Many of us love nothing more than welcoming family and friends into our homes to share a sumptuous meal or special occasion. I for one, am happiest when planning a lavish feast to enjoy with my favourite people. But even the most experienced cooks can feel overwhelmed by the number of mouths they have offered to feed, as we mere mortals wonder how to achieve the impossible whilst still making time to enjoy the company of our guests.

When our kitchens are tired and dated or there’s simply not enough space to put things (not to mention accommodate our ever expanding families!), the theoretical bliss of a houseful can become a stressful reality. I’m sure at some point we’ve all stood in the middle of our kitchens holding a roasting hot baking tray as we search for available worktop space, and know the frustration of shuffling the turkey and countless veg options in and out of our overstuffed ovens. Plus everyone loves to loiter in the kitchen… Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the hub of our home were a more sociable space?

Fortunately, a well planned kitchen can alleviate much of the stress of entertaining. After all, getting creative in the kitchen should be an enjoyable experience. You’re far less likely to get in a fluster if you have plenty of worktop space for food preparation, especially if more than one person like to get involved in the cooking. Clever storage solutions like deep drawers and pull-out shelves are a must in the modern kitchen as they maximise space and allow quick and easy access to all of your things. And don’t underestimate the advantages of technology. Modern appliances can improve our results, cut down on cooking times and prolong our fresh food shelf life.

Kitchen makeovers can achieve all this and more. Updating the worktops and doors of your existing units is the perfect way to dramatically transform the appearance of your home without the upheaval or expense of having a new kitchen fitted. Not only will it look great, but it can improve the functionality of your home. And because makeovers can be undertaken in just a few days, there’s still time to get that kitchen you’ve always dreamed of in time for a very Merry Christmas indeed!
