The regional launch of the Japan-UK Season of Culture 2019-2020.

The regional launch of the Japan-UK Season of Culture 2019-2020, which will run from the Rugby World Cup to the Olympics and Paralympics, was celebrated in October at an evening reception and viewing of the Museum's two current Japanese-themed exhibitions: Japanese Ghosts and Demons - Woodblock Prints from the Ashmolean Museum; and Powerful Nature - Inspiring Japanese Art & Culture.

His Excellency the Ambassador of Japan, Mr Koji Tsuruoka, was joined by the Lord-Lieutenant William Tucker, High Sheriff of Derbyshire William Burlington, Mayor of Derby Cllr Frank Harwood, TMUK Managing Director Marvin Cooke, Chair of Derby Museum and Art Gallery Liz Fothergill, and invited dignitaries and distinguished guests. A barrel of sake brewed by the unique Dojima Sake Brewery at Fordham Abbey was broken in the traditional style before guests toasted the launch. u
