Nostalgic King’s School former pupils returned home for a record-breaking annual gala dinner.

Members of the Former Pupils’ Association enjoyed a three course meal in the Macclesfield school’s Main Hall on Cumberland Street, and many of the 140 former pupils were given a tour of the old school.

Guest speaker was former Scots international rugby player Bryan Redpath, whose sons all attended King’s. The event raised £4,000 for King’s School Bursary Fund, which provides part and full fee bursaries for families of limited means.

One of the oldest former pupils Derek Way, who came to King’s in 1944, said: ‘It wasn’t at all strict. We ran riot really and were lucky not to be thrown out, but it was such great fun.’
