With a name to suit its picturesque surroundings, Kingswood Homes’ Blackburn development Green Hills is ripping up the rulebook on what new-builds should be

Green Hills is no ordinary housing development. The 167 new and unique homes nestle on a Pennine hillside in Feniscowles, Blackburn, and sit around two village greens and boast seriously stunning views.

The site is home to more than 50 individual house designs by Wayne Hemingway MBE and Gerardine Hemingway MBE. Inspired by traditional Lancashire farmsteads and Pennine barns, the site is worlds away from the typical new development which would ordinarily consist of perhaps four or five different house types.

The method behind the genius was to set a blueprint for two, three, four and five-bedroom newbuilds and prove they can have character, be full of charm and be totally bespoke. Not only that, but they give their owners an enjoyable and socially interactive place to live and relax.

The development is a three-way partnership between Kingswood Homes, Hemingway Design and architects IDPartnership who teamed up to "create better new homes designed with the customers' needs at heart".

Kingswood Homes managing director Paul Jones says: 'If you listen to Wayne Hemingway, he talks passionately about how the development was designed around societal wellbeing and enjoying life.

'Our new homes and developments are designed to make people happy. There's more space to live inside, more open space to enjoy outside and better features to enjoy.'

And feedback from community events proves Kingswood Homes, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, is hitting the spot.

The Hemingways say the new homeowners are helping them understand how the place works, 'not just as housing but as a community, as a neighbourhood and as a place to live and grow'.

And Paul adds: 'The development is designed with life in mind, using a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. I'd say the development is based on traditional designs but combines that contemporary living for modern families.'

It works for commuters and for those who want a semi-rural lifestyle. That's because while the M65 is a few minutes away, homeowners on the development have the outdoorsy benefits of the surrounding rolling hills and rugged moors, with walkways connecting to the historic Witton Weavers Way, a 32-mile long series of circular walking routes. But the stunning surroundings aren't the only the attraction.

The quality of the builds at Green Hills has been praised by a number of prestigious industry awards, including being awarded Best Development in the North West at the Insider Residential Property Awards 2018 and Best Residential Development at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) North West Building Excellence Awards 2019.

'We have a track record of excellent customer service,' Paul says. 'We work closely with our customers to offer a range of specifications and finishes to make their homes perfect. Many of the high quality and stylish specifications in our homes are often also included as standard.'
