Bestselling author Lee Child flew from New York to appear at an exclusive event for Harrogate International Festivals.

Child is one of many authors, broadcasters, musicians and philanthropists who have become a Future 50 Vice President to promote Harrogate International Festivals’ campaign to raise £1m. ‘Future 50’, the largest fundraising campaign by the arts charity, was launched to mark the festivals’ 50th anniversary this year to help safeguard its future.

Lee said: ‘Harrogate International Festival is the best in the world. Believe me, I go to all of them! This arts charity does a remarkable thing, it takes the name of Harrogate all around the world. As well as showcasing the biggest names at work, it discovers and supports new writers and artists. Supporting the festival is supporting future generations to fulfil their potential.’

Sharon Canavar, CEO of Harrogate International Festivals, said: ‘It’s crucial we generate support to ensure the future survival of the festivals and to ensure we can continue to provide a wide-ranging, impactful programme. Lee is a true philanthropist and a great friend of the Festivals.’
