A special Coffee Concert in aid of local charity ‘Carers Gloucestershire’ will take place in the Chapter House of Gloucester Cathedral on Tuesday 27th October at 10.00am. The audience will be able to listen to an exclusive one hour piano recital from Carers Gloucestershire Patron, Nicholas McCarthy, followed by an opportunity to meet and talk with him personally.

Gloucester Cathedral are donating the use of the Chapter House for the event and have joined up with a team of volunteers from Ecclesiastical Insurance to provide a delicious breakfast with tea, coffee and cakes.

Nicholas McCarthy, who at one point was told he would never have a career, is not your average artist. Born in 1989 without his right hand he only began to play the piano at the late age of 14 after seeing a friend play Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata, but was determined to fulfil his dream of becoming a concert pianist. He made history in July 2012 by being the only left handed player to graduate from the Royal College of Music since it was founded. He has now signed a record deal with Warner Classics and has just released his first album entitled “Solo”.

Sandie Conway, Marketing Officer at Gloucester Cathedral commented “Many members of the Cathedral community and Gloucestershire parishioners are themselves carers and we are pleased to be able to support this valuable fund raising initiative for carers living in Gloucestershire. We are delighted to have Nicholas playing at the Cathedral and would encourage local people to purchase tickets for the event”.

Tickets are priced at £12.00 for adults and £6.00 for children (under 5s not permitted entry unfortunately) and include Tea, Coffee and cake. Tickets are available to purchase on at www.carersgloucestershire.org.uk or by contacting Eve Qureshi at Carers Gloucestershire on 01452 87224.
