DUNREYTH Alpacas in Chichester certainly offers an unusual alternative to walking the dog. Not quite a sheep and not quite a llama, these extraordinary animals are waiting to explore the nearby countryside with you. Owners Bruce and Peta Ives began their alpaca venture in 2006 with just two pregnant females, and the herd has now grown to over 40 alpacas. Set on 13 acres of the South Downs, it is the perfect backdrop for a walk with your chosen fluffy friend. The alpacas at Dunreyth are fully trained, so they are delighted to take walks with visitors to the farm. These walks last about 50 minutes. Alpacas truly are extraordinary looking things that come in all colours and sizes, but all as endearing as the others. Llama walks are already on offer at various places around the country, but not with these smaller, more intelligent animals. Dunreyth offers a unique experience that’s just as enjoyable for adults as it is for children. Just don’t forget to check out the shop for your very own snuggly alpaca souvenir!

Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens was certainly fit for a king. Stroll around the recreated Roman gardens, the earliest found anywhere in the country, and discover 2,000-year-old remains including the famous collection of in-situ mosaic floors, which are the largest in the UK. You can search the museum to find things from everyday Roman life including coins, pottery and jewellery or watch a film to see what the Palace looked like 2,000 years ago and find out who may have lived there. Open March to October every day 10am-5pm, 1 November-16 Dec open every day 10am -4pm and from 17-31 December open Saturdays and Sundays only 10am -4pm. Are you interested in planets, stars and galaxies? Then why not visit the South Downs Planetarium in Chichester? There is free car parking adjacent to the Planetarium building, easy access for the disabled, and it is only a short walk from rail and bus stations.
