When John Gallagher had a successful life-saving transplant surgery at Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s liver unit in February this year, he and his wife Claire vowed to thank the department that saved his life.

They hosted a fundraising golf day and dinner which raised over £20,000 for the Transplant Unit. The occasion, hosted by Peter Price and Willy Miller, was sponsored by Wongs Jewellers and Bet Victor.

Entertainment was provided by MD Productions with Chris Maloney and Tricia McTeague. Mr Thamara Perera, the surgeon who had performed the life-saving surgery, gave a touching speech about his transplant patients and the journey they embark upon.

John and Claire, from Liverpool, were also delighted that the Transplant Co-ordinators, who had helped them so much during their difficult time were able to attend the occasion.
