Inside October’s Living Edge - available to read for free online

Fashion and food are the themes for this month but judging from how tight my trousers feel after dining at Manchester’s newest restaurants I’m not sure they go together!

I went along to interview the chef James Martin who is something of a dish himself and very, very passionate about his chosen career. He talked to me about the menu he was planning for his new restaurant at Manchester 235 casino. Pig cheek, slow roasted pork etc. I eventually ‘fessed upthat I was a vegetarian before skulking off like Gollum without his ring. I also met Mary Berry, who looks amazing and is living proof that cakes and pastries aren’t fattening - or ageing.

So summer has finally moved on to another hemisphere leaving us to cheer ourselves up with... fashion. And as you can see from this issue there’s really loads to get excited about. If I invest in one thing this year it will be a coat (apparently in colour du jour, pink). But I won’t be falling for that one. Black is the new black darling!

If you want to get in touch then I’d be delighted if you’d e-mail me at janet.reeder@archant.co.uk
