Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory (SATTF), Bristol’s nationally renowned company makes its first visit to the Everyman next month with this darkly comic early romance, in which friendship and love, and loyalty and betrayal are the real players.

Two lifelong friends – the two young gentlemen of the title – are parted first by circumstance, and then by rivalry in love. Can their loyalty to each other survive the test, or will new loyalties drive out the old? How deep into perfidy can one be driven by sexual obsession?

And what do even the most adored of women count for in a profoundly masculine world? Shakespeare’s vision is both comic and shocking – and extraordinarily modern.

In its 14-year life, SATTF has gained both a national and international reputation for some of the most vivid and compelling stagings of Shakespeare in the country.

For this production SATTF is joined by a four-legged cast member, Lollio, a gorgeous black Labrador, who will make his theatrical debut playing Crab.

Director Andrew Hilton says: “We are thrilled that the extremely versatile Lollio has joined the company as our four-legged cast member in Two Gentleman of Verona. Lollio will be abandoning his normally cheerful and sanitary disposition to take on the role of Crab, a disgracefully incontinent and grumpy animal. Due to huge demand, Lollio will be sharing his experience of rehearsals and performance with you via his blog.”
