Valentine’s Day means more to Lorraine Pooley than flowers and chocolates. It was the day her life was saved. Lorraine, 52 and from Brinscall, lost her father when he was just 36 to polycystic kidney disease.

Tragically, several family members also suffered - including Lorraine, but she was saved when her younger sister Melissa Wilding became a donor. ‘It was the most amazing gift,’ said Lorraine.

And the op was on February 14. Lorraine and Melissa, from Abbey Village, are doing fine and celebrated the first anniversary of the transplant by raising money for Kidneys for Life with family, friends and medics at a local club.
