Crathorne Hall near Yarm was the setting for the Annual Marie Curie Ball.

It was supported by Lord Crathorne whose late wife, Lady Crathorne, was a patron of the Northern branch of the charity for 11 years. Lord Crathorne donated a bottle of House of Lords Malt Whisky to the auction.

The ball was a huge success thanks to the generosity of guests and those who donated raffle prizes, auction lots, or time, skills and expertise beforehand.

An impressive £7472.50 was raised for Marie Curie end of life nursing care. This will provide almost 374 hours, or 41+ nights of professional care for those who wish to be able to die at home. Marie Curie is the only charity providing this care free and cannot meet demand because of a lack of funds to employ, and train, enough specialist nurses. mariecurie.org.uk
