A new bronze sculpture called ‘Bird of Happiness’ by Simon Gudgeon, was unveiled as ‘a permanent marker of the foundation of the marina in 2008.’

Thousands of visitors flocked to Mercia Marina in Willington to celebrate its 10th anniversary, enjoying live music, stilt walkers, street performances, a boat parade, face painting and street magic.

A reception for those who have helped, supported, contributed and driven the marina forward over the years followed, with the celebrations culminating in a firework display.

Mercia Marina is now one of the largest inland marinas in Europe and attracts over 800,000 visitors every year as well as being the home to moorings for more than 600 boats and the location of 27 privately owned holiday lodges.
