Eddie, the English pointer (Winsford): “He’s the laziest dog you’d meet,” laughs owner Haleema Kara. “If he was a human, he’d be the one that wakes up just before Christmas dinner is served. He does love a costume though, and will happily oblige to me dressing him up.”

Otto, the staffie/ Parson Russell/ chihuahua cross (Northwich): A rescue from Dogs Trust, five-year-old Otto is a crazy, happy, “goofball of a dog”, owner Beverley Boylan says. “He loves life and everything in it. He’s incredibly loyal and just wants to be with me every minute of the day.”

The Nativity, HoundClub Pet Services (Crewe): A dog nativity? Yes please. Emma Caskie says: “I foster dogs for rescue, so normally have a selection pack of breeds at home and love exploring the Cheshire countryside with them, finding new routes to walk.”

Ted, the cockapoo and Skye, the maltichon (Weaverham): “Ted is super chilled; he likes nothing better than sleeping and lives for his walks, whereas Skye, she may be small but she certainly makes her presence felt,” owner Clare Cope says. “They love Christmas because of all the extra yummy food on offer – especially the turkey.”

Lola, the labrador/ husky cross (Crewe): Lola is about 10-years-old and was adopted from Animal Lifeline in Stoke-on-Trent about four years ago. She’s a gentle giant, owner Charli Carruthers says. “She’s a total daddy’s girl and loves her walks – almost as much as her food. She usually dresses up on Christmas Day to join in on the festive fun. This year she’ll have a new baby sister (of the human variety) so matching outfits are very likely!”

Frankie, the English bulldog (Stockport): It’s Frankie’s first Christmas with his new forever home this year: owner Julie Earnshaw says: “He required some medical attention when he arrived, but is now acting like a young pup (he’s three-years-old). He fills an emptiness we didn’t know we had. He is so loveable and brightens our days.”
