Leading actor Anthony Andrews will be donning the bowler at the month’s Moreton Show
Moreton Show is used to attracting the very best in British farming and food and this year can boast an award-winning actor among those who will be enjoying the end-of-summer finale in this beautiful corner of the North Cotswolds.
Anthony Andrews is one of our finest actors and has honed his craft playing some of the most memorable Englishmen, on stage as well as on TV and in the cinema. He won a Golden Globe and a Bafta as Lord Sebastian Flyte in Brideshead Revisited in the 1980s and he has since played such notables as Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, King George VI and Professor Henry Higgins.
Like his wife of 46 years, Georgina, Andrews has always been mad about horses. As riders and owners, the couple are equestrian experts who have competed and won at the highest level in the showing world and admit that their passion about horses goes right back to their childhoods. Mr and Mrs Andrews are coming to Moreton Show as the judges for the first Supreme Champion Horse and Supreme Champion Pony competitions.
It is the first time that, Moreton Show, which is the finale to the summer equestrian season, will have a Supreme Champion Horse and a Supreme Champion Pony and the titles come with substantial prize money and a Horse Portrait by David Lloyd Collins worth £200.
The Supreme Championships will be open to horses and ponies taking part in the 35 classes at Moreton Show which are qualifiers for the prestigious Horse of the Year Show at the NEC in Birmingham in October. Find out all the details on the website.
There are plenty of innovative competitions at Moreton Show. This year also sees the climax of the new ‘Triple Crown’ competition for cattle showing, in which animals will be shown at three Midlands agricultural shows. The competition began at the Hanbury Countryside Show in Worcestershire in July before moving on August 3 to Burwarton Show in Shropshire. The winner of the most points will be decided at Moreton Show. The winner will receive £1,000 and the Three Shires Cattle Trophy, sponsored by the Moreton in Marsh-based Nimrod Veterinary Products.
With more than 2,000 animals in competition, Moreton Show is probably the biggest one-day agriculture show in the country. There is so much to see and do. Along with the best of the British countryside, fabulous food, the JCB Dancing Diggers and Tractor Ted, you can treat yourself to a whirlpool spa or just a posh pair of wellies at some of the 350 trade stands.
Tickets are easier than ever to buy with the introduction of e-tickets via the show’s website and buying early will always save you money. Book your tickets here.
