New addition for summer at The Butchers Arms in Hepworth

It’s been a busy time at The Butchers Arms this Spring. The award winning pub in Hepworth, well known for its quality food and ales has added a new dimension to their offer.
The external space to the rear of the pub has been transformed into an external, heated, dining and drinking area. “We are so pleased with the work we have had done, the area was really in need of some TLC, now the space is less weather dependent as half of it is covered and heated, with blankets for those who still feel the cold!” Caroline told us.
To top off the revitalised space Mark and Caroline have added a wood fired pizza oven. This fantastic addition, built by The Secret Shed company, who specialise in high quality, bespoke garden and outdoor buildings, provides a great new dining option for those wanting casual or family dining at superb value.
The artisan wood fired pizzas are home made on site and hand rolled to create a traditional, thin crust with a range of toppings, from the traditional margarita to a build your option with toppings ranging from salami and garlic sausage to goats cheese and grilled peppers. Margarita pizzas are just £7.95. The pizza kitchen is currently open from Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm. Takeaway is also available.
The A la carte, Prix Fixe and Bar menu all still are available for those who prefer a more formal or sophisticated dining experience. French cuisine seems to be making a comeback but the Butchers Arms have been ahead of the game with their French a la carte menu for over three years now. Drawing on Mark Hogan’s many years in France, from St. Tropez to the Alps to the Dordogne, where Mark’s love of French rustic food developed, he has accrued many recipes which he brings to his menus today.
Using as much local and regional produce as possible, Mark and his team recreate many dishes he has brought back from his beloved France. The a la carte menu offers delights such as; “Poulet aux Quarante Gousses D`ail” Chicken with 40 cloves of garlic, chicken on the bone roasted with garlic and spring onions served with bacon and chive mash, “Poitrine de Porc, braisee´et paneé” Crispy pork belly with French black pudding, wilted spinach, celeriac remoulade and apple puree. “Carre´D’Angneau” Rack of crusted lamb on a bed of potato and herb pancakes with a red wine jus and tian of Mediterranean vegetables alongside fish dishes such as “Turbot Dieppoise,” pan fried turbot with a creamy mussel, prawn and mushroom sauce, the “Broad bean and asparagus risotto” is a wonderful use of Summer produce. There are some great examples of French wine to complement such as a Macon Village or St Emillion and there is a beautifully pale Provence Rose´ for those hot Summer days.
The Butchers Arms, won 35th place in the UK’s Top 50 gastro Pubs are constantly striving to improve their offer and provide guests with new and interesting dining options. Even with the pizzas, chef patron Mark still offer his fabulous Thai menus, which are now available at a date to suit you. For a minimum of four guests and 48 hours notice Mark will create an 11 course meal showcasing some fabulous Thai and South East Asian cuisine, a real treat at just £29 per head.
