The 40th anniversary of the annual fair in Newburgh was celebrated in style by 150 guests.

Attendees at the Ruby Ball enjoyed a 1970s style retro-dinner and danced the night away to the music of Jacqui’s Rhythm Katz Jazz Band and DJ Gregg Richie.

The ball was followed by a week of entertainment including a Houghton Weavers concert, a ladies’ night and the fair.

The fair procession was led by two dressed shire horses and welcomed 20 former Rose Queens including the 1977 Rose Queen, Karen Bailey, who opened this year’s event.

Any surplus proceeds from the fair are donated to Newburgh School and local charities.
