Despite theories that the term ‘ploughman’s lunch’ was invented by a cynical marketing agency to sell more cheese, it has to be admitted then when you’re hungry, this classic combo of bread, cheese and chutney is hard to beat.
The enterprising Newton Farm Shop at Newton St Loe, Bath, has updated the concept by pairing a handsome wedge of Westcombe Dairy cheddar with a thick slice of farmhouse ham, bread from Bertinet’s Bakery, salad leaves from the Severn Project in Keynsham and In A Pickle chutney: delicious, satisfying and highly nutritious for £6.95.
Newton Farm Foods specialize in locally grown and locally sourced high quality meats, most of which are produced on their third generation Duchy of Cornwall farm.
