Plymouth Karting played host to a special Mercedes-Benz South West Challenge which saw the luxury car brand’s South West Ambassador Nicolas Hamilton take on Plymouth Albion and Plymouth Argyle for the first in a series of challenges.

Owner of the stunning new Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Nicolas Hamilton felt right at home on the karting track, having raced against his brother Lewis for many years at the start of their careers. Nicolas is now an established professional racing driver in the European Touring Car Championship.

Adrenaline was racing as the teams took to qualifying, but no one matched the South West Ambassador who took pole position every time.

Nicolas courteously stepped down to crown Plymouth Argyle’s Curtis Nelson in first place, allowing Andy Styles to take second and Plymouth Albion’s Heath Stevens third. Continuing success, Plymouth Albion’s Rhys Oakley claimed the prize for the fastest lap.

Mercedes-Benz of Plymouth’s general manager Lee Nash said: “I’m not sure what was more competitive, the MBSW Challenge itself or just having 30 professional sportsmen in one room. This is the first of a series of MBSW Challenges that Nicolas will partake in; it’s been a great day, lots of fun and a great chance to get together with our Plymouth ‘locals’.”
