Santa’s latest recruits, Beamish the Shire horse and his little friend Lady Penelope the Shetland pony will be at this year’s Westcountry Equine Fair, supporting a fantastic charity, the Children’s Hospice South West.

They have been collecting gifts (in conjunction with Webbers Estate Agents) to make Christmas magical for very special life limited children and their families.

Children’s Hospice South west, who will be celebrating their 25th year in 2016, has three hospices in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. These hospices are special places where life limited children and their families can spend time for respite or end of life care.

Beamish has been a regular visitor to the hospice’s Little Bridge House near Barnstaple. Children with serious illness, profound disabilities and communication difficulties seem to love Beamish and are drawn to this massive animal!

Owner of Lady Penelope, Jessica Tropman (aged 14) met Diana Mail, Beamish’s owner at the Westcountry Equine Fair last year. Jessica says ‘it was at this event I learnt of the work Diana does for Children’s Hospice South West, with her beautiful shire horse Beamish. This inspired me to do some charity work of my own and join Diana in fundraising for the hospice. I owe all this to the Equine Fair, not just for introducing me to Diana but for teaching me how to be a true horsewoman with good values and respect for my horses’.

If you have a gift you would like to donate for these children, you can take this to any Webbers Estate Agent or you can bring it along to this year’s Westcountry Equine Fair. The event takes place at Westpoint, Exeter on Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th December 2015.

Look out for this festive duo in the breed village. They will also parade in the indoor arena where you can drop off any presents!

The Westcountry Equine Fair is certainly the total equestrian experience for the dedicated rider!
