Rossall School hosted a star studded ball to celebrate its 175th anniversary and raise money for its new sports centre.

Three hundred former pupils, parents and friends of the school gathered for pre-reception drinks before being led to the dining hall which was filled with memorabilia and pictures charting the school's history. Mamma Mia star Mazz Murray sang songs from the last 175 years and the Ian Hooper band also performed. The meal was provided by Twelve Restaurant at Thornton and the event, which also featured an auction, raised £35,000 for the new sports centre.

The facility, which will also be open to local community groups, houses the North West's first indoor hockey facility, a four-lane 50m sprint track, a long jump pit, gym and a viewing gallery.
