More than 100 guests marked the 60th anniversary of the work of Samaritans at a celebration dinner dance hosted by the Preston branch of the charity.

The black tie event at Barton Grange, near Preston, included an auction which raised more than £500 towards the work of the local branch, which provides its services across central Lancashire and the Fylde.

Preston’s Samaritans, based in St Wilfrid Street, is staffed by volunteers and provides a valuable support service for the community. Volunteers and their families were among the guests at the dance. Its trained members offer emotional support on the phone, face-to-face, through email, text and letters. The charity is entirely self-funded. The main sponsor was Goosnargh farmer, Johnson & Swarbrick.
