Rugby players are not noted for their devotion to temperance but for Sedgley Park, that’s how it all started 80 years ago. Current chairman David Smith said the club was founded in a milk bar and the first pitch was a farmer’s field with a handpump for water and a stone trough to wash in.

Today, the club has ten mini and junior teams and four senior sides and the trough has been replaced by cutting edge facilities including 50 showers and a state-of-the-art gym. The club has also developed into a focal point for the community in Whitefield and players past and present joined guests to celebrate the 80th anniversary with a special dinner at the club.
