The best of Somerset’s food and drink businesses were celebrated at the 2016 Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards, held at Brympton House in Yeovil.
The best of Somerset’s food and drink businesses were celebrated at the 2016 Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards, held at Brympton House in Yeovil.
During the drinks reception, guests enjoyed sparkling wine from Best Drinks Producer winner Smiths & Evans Wines and Thatchers Haze while mingling on the stunning South Terrace. A delicious Somerset-themed three course meal, prepared by Bath based Dine With Style catering, was enjoyed by guests. Food was matched with a selection of wines from the Somerset Wine Company, ciders including Katy and Gold from Thatchers and bottled water from Glastonbury spring water.
TV presenter and Somerset Life columnist Martin Roberts presented awards to restaurateurs, tea shop owners, hoteliers, butchers and bakers from across the county.
After the awards presentation, Martin was presented with a beautiful, bespoke hamper courtesy of Taste of Bath, full of Somerset produce from his local area.
Somerset’s Best Chef was named as Justin Reeves of Reeves, Dunster. Justin has more than 2 decades of cooking experience, including working at La Sorbonne in Oxford under master chef Andre Chavagnon. He opened Reeves Restaurant in Dunster with his wife in 2005 where he says he gets a big kick from using the fresh, local ingredients on his doorstep. The White Post at Rimpton was named best gastropub and the best tea room was revealed at Cole Manor Tea Rooms in Bruton.
The award for Best Food Event, a new addition to this year’s awards went to Burnham-on-Sea Food Festival.
Martin Thatcher, of Thatchers Cider was chosen as the 2016 Best Local Producer.
