The best West Country fare will be the order of the day at a special local producers’ day being held at The Moorland Garden Hotel near Yelverton on Friday 7 June, culminating in a Gourmet Wine Supper in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.

Fans of sourcing local food can meet producers, taste and try their wares and watch demonstrations on how best to use the ingredients.

Then, the ultimate way to round off the day, the hotel’s new Head Chef, Bruce Cole, will be creating a special West Country menu with the help of the producers for an exclusive Gourmet Wine Supper.

Joining him will be Charles Steevenson, of Charles Steevenson Wines, who will be matching wines to complement each course, with the duo presenting each dish and wine pairing.

Diners will also have the chance to take home some of the fabulous fare thanks to a West Country Producers’ Auction in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.

Bruce says: “It’s very important that diners know the provenance of their food and I couldn’t think of a better way of realising this than offering the chance to meet the producers face to face.

“I can happily say that we live in one of the best places in the British Isles for local produce.

“I’m particularly spoilt as a chef with the availability of great ingredients to cook with and look forward to celebrating an afternoon and evening of the finest the West Country has to offer, and raising money for such a good cause.”

“We are here to help families on this difficult journey, providing them with care and support and the opportunity for a much-needed break where they can enjoy spending precious time together as a family.

Bruce, who joined the hotel in April, has recently introduced a new menu at The Wildflower Restaurant and less formal Dartmoor Bar. His ethos is all about taking the best local produce and adding a twist to traditional recipes.

The local produce fair runs from 12 noon to 4pm and is free of charge with plentiful parking, or just off the Drake’s Trail for anyone wishing to come by bike.

The Gourmet Wine Supper starts at 7pm. Tickets are £49.95 per person – with a donation going to Children’s Hospice South West – and includes five courses with matching wines.
