Spencer Grove Care Home in Belper celebrated its fifth anniversary in style with a glamorous Casino Night for residents, their relatives and staff

Black-Jack and Roulette Tables were tended by professional croupiers, and revellers placed their bets using ‘Funny Money’ specially printed for the event. Spencer Grove, owned by Milford Care, opened in 2009 and was heralded as Best Healthcare Development 2009 at the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Awards. It quickly grew in popularity within the local community and the second phase of the Care Home, which offers Nursing and Residential care, opened earlier than expected due to high demand. Since opening, further accolades have included the MacMillan Life Enhancing Care Programme, The Derbyshire End of Life Quality Award and regional and national recognition for staff at the Great British Care Awards.

Donna Annable, Home Manager, who made a brief speech at the event, said ‘If someone had told me all that we would have achieved here at Spencer Grove, I could never have believed them. To go from an abandoned factory to a thriving Care Home in such a short time is incredible and I am so proud and grateful to the staff, residents and all who have supported us’.

Milford Care’s latest care home, Ashbourne Lodge, is due to open its doors later this summer. A first anniversary celebration is already being planned!
