‘Storytelling for a Greener World’ by Alida Gersie and ‘The World We Made’ by Jonathon Porritt

The recent floods devastated homes, farms, lives and the environment challenging us to imagine a greener future in the face of climate change. Through its vivid stories, ‘Storytelling for a Greener World’ will help us picture a more resilient future. There will be inspiring and informative talks by Jonathon Porritt of Forum for the Future on his new book, ‘The World We Made’, and Alida Gersie on the ideas that drive Storytelling for a Greener World, as well as moving nature stories.

The evening begins with stirring songs by local choir, Circle of Song, followed by magical nature tales told by first-class storytellers including Eric Maddern with Finding our Bearings; Edward Schieffelin with Reframing the Apocalypse to Rescue a Rainforest in New Guinea; Stroud storyteller Anthony Nanson with The Passenger Pigeon, and additional stories from Kelvin Hall, Kevan Manwaring and Kirsty Hartsiotis.

“If we are to be able to move to a more sustainable, more resilient future, we first have to be able to imagine it,” says Rob Hopkins, Co-Founder of Transition Network. “We need to be able to tell its stories, weave its magic, bring it alive so we can see, smell, hear, taste and touch it. Storytelling for a Greener World does just that, showing the powerful role storytelling can play, and the rich insights the storytellers bring with them. It is rich, powerful and if immense importance.”

This event is not suitable for children under 12. The Sub Rooms Café will be open early evening and the bar opens at 7pm and during the interval. The evening will end at approximately 10pm, when there will be a book signing, as well as time to mingle and browse the various information stalls.
