England’s rugby union coach Stuart Lancaster returned to his old school as part of the annual Old St Beghians’ Day celebrations. It is 33 years since Stuart first set foot in St Bees School as a young boy, but he clearly has very fond memories of his time as a boarding student.
The School’s Sports Hall was turned into a magnificent venue for a hugely popular black tie charity auction and dinner. All 300 tickets sold out within days of their release and guests were able to enjoy superb catering provided by the school’s own kitchen staff and immaculate waiter service by the sixth form students.
Generous guests took part in a raffle and auction run by David Bowman, of Hopes of Wigton, raising more than £15,500 for the The Calvert Trust Lake District Riding Centre, The Cash for Kids ‘Give Me A Break Appeal’ and St Bees Lifeboat.
