The historic grounds of Michelham Priory and its Elizabethan Great Barn provided a beautiful setting for the Sussex Guild’s annual Contemporary Craft Show.

It celebrated the prodigious skills and creativity of its members, all of whom live and work in and around Sussex and are selected for their high standards of design, innovation, and craftsmanship.

The four-day event attracted a record 3,000 visitors. There was a working forge, where blacksmith and forgemaster, Eric Lamprell, member of The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, mesmerised the crowds by producing pokers, handles, hooks and ornamental sculptures at a heat of 1,230 degrees Celsius. Eric prides himself on being one of the highest-quality traditional blacksmiths in the country. Other demonstrations included potters Ann Hitchcox and Mohamed Hamid and woodworker John Plater.
