Derbyshire’s business community came out in force to support the annual fund-raising evening in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care
The county’s business community came out in force to support the annual fund-raising evening in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. A team from Flint Bishop solicitors was victorious for the second year running – chased to the line in a close-fought competition. More than 300 people enjoyed the entertaining evening which in addition to the quiz – expertly compèred by Edwina Currie – included an excellent meal supplied by the catering team at the venue, Derby’s Roundhouse, and a fund-raising raffle and auction stylishly conducted by Steve Salloway. A moving speech by local Marie Curie nurse manager, Corinne Astle, left those present in no doubt of the importance of Marie Curie nurses, their care and dedication and how crucial their presence is at such a difficult time in people’s lives. The evening raised an impressive total of £31,500 for the charity. County Patron, Lord Lieutenant Willie Tucker, commented: ‘The Derbyshire Brain Game has, over the last four years, become one of the “must attend” events for the corporate sector. During that time we have raised well over £100,000 for Marie-Curie’s use in the County. We are grateful to our main sponsors Bowmer and Kirkland whose generosity is much appreciated.
