As part of the Royal Exchange Theatre’s anniversary of 40 exceptional years of drama in Manchester, a special event brought together 40 supporters to celebrate their contribution to the organisation.

In the 1970s, 30 individuals were fundamental to the founding of the Royal Exchange, providing the financial investment to transform the building and erect the iconic theatre module. This year the theatre took inspiration from that act of generosity and brought together 40 visionary individuals and businesses, each of whom has made a special investment to support the theatre, as THE 40.

Joining the celebrations on the evening was the theatre’s patron, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex KG GCVO, who officially unveiled a recognition board. He said: ‘Today I have seen some of the great work this support helps make happen, from young people enjoying musical theatre workshops to hearing how a theatrical partnership has brought a new version of a classic musical to life. It is a delight to be able to unveil THE 40 supporters board, which will be mounted in the theatre entrance as a mark of their fantastic contribution.’
