One of the highlights of the summer season is back again

A popular fixture in the sporting and south-west social calendar, the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo takes place on Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10. The weekend long celebration promises exciting top-quality polo coupled with family entertainment and the chance for a spot of light shopping in the tented shopping village. For polo enthusiasts as well as those who simply enjoy a sociable day out, the Festival of Polo offers a fun day for all.

This year’s Festival sees an exciting polo match programme with a top quality International Test Match plus charity, celebrity and young player games.

Thrilling polo programme

Saturday showcases classic fast-paced polo, with the feature match being The Swinhay International Test Match at 3.30pm. Flannels England will take on Ireland in what promises to be an exciting match where England will attempt to hold the honours following their win last year. The Swinhay International is preceded by a Celebrity Polo Match where relative newcomers to the sport take to the field. Sunday’s highlight is the Maserati Charity Polo Trophy at 3.00pm. This four-chukka match, with Maserati and Dhamani 1969 sponsored teams is a valuable fundraiser for two important charities: The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Centrepoint. Also on Sunday, spectators will witness some of the country’s finest young polo talents in the final of The Javier Novillo Astrada U15 Cup. The Javier Novillo Astrada U15 Cup was founded by the Tomlinson family of Beaufort Polo Club in memory of the player who tragically lost his fight a brain tumour in 2014, and raises money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. If last year is anything to go by, this promises more thrilling polo and action on the field.

Something for all

Ensuring those attending the event enjoy a full day out, the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo offers something for all, both on and off the field. High quality trade stands give shoppers a treat, and a programme of arena displays and demonstrations starts at 11am. The traditional funfair will keep children entertained and there are quality concessions plus the Clubhouse offering foodie treats.

“This is a popular event for families”, says Mark Tomlinson – a regular member of the England Polo Team and representative of Beaufort Polo Club. “We want people to make a day of it. As well as our great polo line-up, they can see arena attractions, do a spot of shopping, bring a picnic and socialise with friends”.
