Brighton's Hilton Metropole was transformed into a winter wonderland last month for the first Snowman Spectacular in aid of the Chestnut Tree House.The only children's hospice in Sussex, Chestnut Tree House celebrated its fifth birthday by hosting the event inspired by Raymond Briggs' endearing creation The Snowman.As well as an auction for prizes such as a signed copy of Harry Potter, a David Beckham autographed England shirt and a golf lesson from US Open champion Michael Campbell, the evening included a moving presentation from some of the children and families who use the hospice.The hospice says there are potentially 400 families with life-limited children in Sussex. Chestnut Tree House offers them a wide range of help, from psychological support to end of life and respite care.The organisation, based near Arundel, costs around £2 million a year to run but receives no government funding and relies instead on the generosity and support of Sussex people.
