This October, the Thurlestone Hotel in South Devon will play host to a wonderful weekend of Italian opera, food and wine, with a special two night package available that is guaranteed to banish any autumn blues with a generous dose of music, passion and indulgence.

Taking place from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th October, the ‘Italian Job Gala Opera weekend’ will feature an intimate concert from some of the country’s most acclaimed operatic performers, showcasing the music of Puccini, Verdi and Mozart, from the big opera classics to lesser-known gems. The concert will include performances by Claire Surman (soprano), Hannah Pedley (mezzo soprano), Alexander Anderson-Hall (tenor), and Robert Davies (baritone) accompanied by Benjamin Powell (piano).

Each of the artists has performed as principal artists all over the world, with companies including The Royal Opera – Covent Garden, Glyndebourne, the English National Opera, Welsh National Opera and Scottish Opera; alongside prestigious orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the Berlin Philharmonic; and with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle and Sir John Eliot Gardiner. The programme will appeal to opera aficionados and newcomers alike, including famous arias, duets and ensembles from the likes of La Boheme, Don Giovanni and La Traviata, with well-known pieces such as ‘Nessun Dorma’, ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ as well as contemporary favourites including ‘Time to Say Goodbye’.

On arrival guests will be welcomed with afternoon tea in the hotel’s elegant lounge, which has beautiful views across the coastline. In the evening, Aperol cocktails and canapés will be served in the Terrace Bar, before an Italian-themed dinner in the acclaimed Margaret Amelia Restaurant, with an informal performance. The following day, guests will be welcome to sample the hotel’s facilities, which include a nine hole golf course; tennis, squash and badminton courts; and the stylish Voyage Spa, which has an indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, and heat suite, as well as range of pampering body treatments available. Relaxed and refreshed, in the evening guests will enjoy bubbly cocktails and canapés before sitting down to a gala dinner ahead of the weekend’s main concert.

A two night package is available priced from £390 per person, based on two adults sharing on dinner, bed and breakfast basis, with afternoon tea on arrival, pre-dinner drinks and the programme of opera entertainment included.
