Dozens of artists descended on the Ribble Valley town of Longridge to take part in one of the county’s most unusual painting competitions.
The artists, from across the region, were set the task of completing a painting in one day with a first prize of £2,000 going to the best. The event not only attracted artists, but large numbers of people braved a day of heavy rain to watch the painters in action. There were also side events, such as painting for children and a group making a giant collage.
It was fitting that the main Create Longridge award went to Silverdale artist Tracy Levine - she lived in Longridge for 20 years and the competition was a rare opportunity to make a return visit.
She painted her mixed media landscape from a barn high above the town. ‘It was an absolutely brilliant event but painting against the clock made it also quite nerve-racking,’ she said.
‘It was very well organised and there was a real atmosphere of excitement among the large numbers who had come along to see who had won. I am sure this is an event that will go from strength to strength.’
