Marketing Gloucester is looking for three ‘kings’ to lead the annual Christmas Lantern Procession on Sunday, November 16, while riding camels through the Gate Streets.
The suitable trio of residents will need to be over the age of 18 to ride on real camels from Blackfriars Priory to the Cathedral, as the city’s festive lights are switched on. They will need to be reasonably fit and weigh less than 14 stone.
This year’s procession is themed ‘We Three Kings’, and will see more than 100 city primary school children walk through the streets with the lanterns they have been building alongside local artists.
The Lantern Procession will begin at 4.30pm starting at the Kyneburg Tower in Southgate Street where it will be led by three real camels and Father Christmas. It will make its way from Southgate Street towards the Cross, where it will then head down Westgate Street to then turn down College Street on towards Gloucester Cathedral. The spectacular parade will then come to an end in the aisles of the Cathedral with a short carol service.
The camels will also be in Eastgate Street at the Light Night Market from noon until 3.30pm for people to see, before starting their official duties.
The Light Night Market starts at 12 noon and will run until 8pm where there will be over 40 craft stalls selling some fantastic Christmas gifts alongside prints and paintings, jewellery and accessories and a range of homemade foods. Music and dance will also be on hand to entertain the Christmas crowds.
