I remember my wedding day quite well. At least, I think I do. To be fair, there are large chunks missing – just like my husband when it came to our ‘first dance.’ As we’d not actually chosen a song or advised the DJ what we wanted, this came as no surprise and no disappointment to anybody! I remember lounging around in my hotel room with my best friend sipping G&Ts (supplied by my dad) and eating white chocolate, then suddenly realising I had 47 buttons to get done up in 6 minutes before heading out the door. I remember my cheeks aching as I smiled like a loon all through the ceremony. I remember the relief as my friend removed my veil and unhooked my train afterwards. I have no recollection of the food we ate or what anybody wore. I know we cut the cake, but have no memory of it. I danced till the lights went up, but can’t remember who with (not hubby, he was propping up the bar with the best man) but I do remember laughing as we realised he had egg down his cravat that must have been there since his breakfast and so all through the ceremony.
What I’m trying to say, I supposed, is that no matter how much planning and preparing and thought goes into your wedding day, what matters is that you relax and have fun on the day itself. Once you’re there, it’s time to relinquish control and smile, laugh and glow with joy. The memories will make themselves.
