The weekend is fast approaching and for those still deciding how to spend their Friday through to Sunday, we pick 5 of the best ways to spend your weekend in Devon

Dartmoor Walking Festival - August 24 - September 1

This is only the third festival but it's already a popular event. Organised by Moorland Guides with the support of organisations such as The Ramblers, National Trust, Woodland Trust and SW Lakes Trust, a programme of events takes place on and after the final bank holiday of the summer. The festival is aimed at encouraging visitors, but also persuading local people to discover the Dartmoor on their doorstep.

There are some fascinating walks in the programme including a visit to Okehampton Battlecamp Museum to learn about how troops trained, a walk to the top of Hen Tor, a visit to a World War Two RAF Bomber crash site, accessible walks for mobility scooters and lots of exploration of Dartmoor's geology and history.

Lobster & Crab Feast in Clovelly - September 1

Spend the day by the coast celebrating this village's unique connection to seafood and the fishing industry. Run in aid of the National Lobster Hatchery, enjoy live music, cookery demonstrations, lots of seafood and more.

It runs from 10am to 5pm.

Dartmouth Royal Regatta - August 27 - 31

The regatta has now been running for an astonishing 175 years and the latest edition of the event will be sure to continue its considerable heritage. Watch lots of the on-the-water action, get involved in it yourself or stay on dry land for even more family-friendly fun.

Nourish Festival in Bovey Tracey - August 31

Crafts, food and music will be the centre of attention on Bovey Tracey's main street as Nourish Festival comes to town. This community-oriented festival first begun in 2014 and is run by the same people as the Contemporary Craft Festival.

It runs from 10am to 5pm.

Sea Ilfracombe Maritime Festival - August 31 - September 1

Visit this popular coastal resort for a weekend filled with great family fun for free. Although the festival is based at the Ropery Road car park, there are lots of other events taking place throughout the town and, of course, out on the water.

Go to the link above for more information on what events are available.
