Feather Down Farm Days is into its 11th year offering glamping (luxury camping) holidays for families at working farms and other countryside operations in the UK and abroad—34 locations in the UK alone. Lambs can be helped with from the Easter Weekend onwards, many other activities can be taken part in every season, or kids can simply revel in being able to roam.

Ten of the Feather Down locations are to be found within 90 miles of Cheshire. The latest prices for these start at £199 for either a 4-night midweek stay or a 3-night weekend.

Feather Down accommodation ranges from the standard wooden-floored tents of 45m2 through the 56m2 en-suites (Canvas Frills Lodge), the Canvas Frills Lodge with hot tub, and new log cabin mezzanines. Interiors recall the 19th century, featuring a wood-burning stove and the Feather Down “cupboard bed” – a big hit with kids – underneath which in the old days animals would have warmed those above.

There is no electricity, the idea being no “screens”, leaving every minute for guests to relax, interact without distractions and connect with nature. At the same time, creature comforts are consistently provided for by Feather Down, with the beds being one of the company’s most acclaimed features. The lodges have canvas that is thick to keep warmth in but retain the sensation of being in nature and of course enclosing flushing toilets. Wood burning under the stove provides all neccesary heat, reminding of when everyone had a fireplace.

Feather Down can be found in every direction of Cheshire. The nearest, just 10 miles to the south of Cheshire East is Lipley Farm in Shropshire. To the west, if Snowdonia National Park appeals then Pant y March Farm is the best option, but if you prefer the coast, Pant y March Farm is available this side of Bangor. In the other direction of Cheshire is Readyfields Farm in Nottinghamshire.

To the north, the Forest of Bowland designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Lancashire is another dramatic landscape with two options, Dolphinholme Farm and Wyresdale Park. Similarly acclaimed, the Shropshire Hills Area Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south of Cheshire is where Acton Scott is to found. Active Upper Shadymoor Farm offers another second choice nearby.

Completing the range of sites within 90 miles south of Cheshire are the Gloucestershire and Herefordshire Hollings Hill Farm and Hidcote Manor Farm.
