WI members from across the Wirral made a colourful spectacle as they paraded through Liverpool city centre as part of their celebration of 100 years of women’s emancipation.

The walk by the women - some dressed as suffragettes - preceded an afternoon tea at The Adelphi Hotel attended by the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Mrs Alexis Redmond MBE, and the chairman of the WI’s Cheshire Federation, Jean Harding.

WI members enjoyed a talk given by the High Sheriff. She explained that many women have taken up this role, the duties of the office, and how women’s position in other sections of society has changed over the past 100 years. The Rev. Jane Parry also addressed the audience.

Ada Lewis, of North Wirral Group, said: ‘It was fascinating and very informative.’
