A sophisticated and fun prom at the Midland Hotel for Manchester sixth formers

Around 300 sixth formers from three Manchester schools joined up for an evening of fun and glamour at the 2016 Leavers’ Ball at the Midland Hotel.

Students from Withington Girls’ School, Manchester Grammar and Manchester High School for Girls, donned black tie or colourful prom dresses for their farewell celebration.

Live jazz from the Alex Hill Music band accompanied a drinks reception, with Dave K Discos providing dance music. The occasion was organised by a committee of representatives from all three schools, led by Withington Head Girl 2016 Radhika Saggar, MGS School Captain David Swarbrick and Manchester High School for Girls’ Head Girl Sophie Haughton, who each made a short speech wishing attendees good luck for their futures.

Following the Ball, MGS Captain David Swarbrick said: ‘The 2016 MGS, WGS and MHSG Leavers’ Ball has been an incredible evening and a fitting way to celebrate the end of seven years at these three exceptional schools. I’m sure all of our cohort will look back fondly on their time at school. Although trying to balance organising the ball with exams has been at times very challenging it has been made easier thanks to the help and support we have received.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Rooney in the MGS Development Office, the Bursar of WGS Mrs Senn, MHSG’s Bursar Mr Moran and the staff at the Midland as without their help and experience organising the Ball would have been impossible.’

Withington Head Girl Radhika Saggar commented: ‘It was a perfect evening, with laughter, camaraderie and dodgy dance moves! A much deserved night out for all of us as we come to the end of our senior school journey.

Manchester High School for Girls’ Head Girl Sophie Haughton said: ‘After the stressful exam period it was lovely to have a night to relax and enjoy ourselves. The dreaded E word (exams!) was unanimously banned for the evening, which was appreciated by all!’
