A selection of fantastic bird-life centres to visit right across Sussex
Pulborough Brooks
Take a stroll through this RSPB-run wetland area and hear nightingales and warblers sing, and spot lapwings put on acrobatic displays. Stay around until dusk to catch a glimpse of barn owls. There's a café and information sheets for children.
Arundel Wetland Centre
Ride a boat along the Arun River with an expert onboard to point out birds, wildlife, plants, fish and insects. Back on dry land there are guided walks, a pond-dipping station, several play areas and a café.
Huxley's Bird of Prey Centre
Stroke an owl and find out about its nocturnal lifestyle while visiting this birdlife centre in gardens near Horsham. Other feathered residents include falcons, eagles, hawks and buzzards.
Knockhatch Adventure Park
As well as being a terrific family activity centre, Knockhatch near Hailsham has an sanctuary home to a variety of owls. Some of the resident species include the African Spotted Eagle Owl, European Eagle Owl and the Western Screech Owl.
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve
For something wilder and less organised, grab your binoculars and take a walk through this important reserve south of Rye town. From the hides, look out for rare ducks, terns, gulls and other birds.
