The County’s biggest wildlife event, the Festival of Wildlife, organised by Kent Wildlife Trust, returns to the beautiful lakeside and woodland setting of Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve and visitor centre on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August - open from 10am-4pm.
Highlights of a packed programme of activities, suitable for the whole family, include:
guided walks - exploring nature with the experts small mammal identification tours - shrews, voles and mice up close in their natural habitats mini-beast hunting - the children’s favourite angling demonstrations - with have-a-go sessions Companion Dog Show - a new event for 2011
In addition, there is live traditional folk music from local bands; demonstrations of spinning, wood turning, chainsaw wood carving etc; a range of produce from the Best of Kent stalls; and displays from marine, mammal, bat and wildlife rescue groups. The Invicta Morris women’s dance group will perform on Sunday.
Event organiser, Amanda Hamley, says: “Now in its fourth year, the Festival is firmly established, and we expect to top last year’s total of over 2,000 visitors. So bring a picnic - if you wish - and a camera, and discover the wonderful world of wildlife at one of the south east’s most celebrated nature reserves.
“Visitors will also be able to admire the reserve’s newest wildlife attraction - the world’s biggest bee home - as verified by Guinness World Records.”
The reserve is easily accessible by following signs on the A25 Bradbourne Vale Road from either Riverhead or Bat and Ball. Parking is �2 per car.
