Dragonflies - the top insect predators of our wetlands.
Dragonflies - The top insect predators of our wetlands.
Great places to see them include Hertford Heath, Fir and Pond Wood and King’s Meads nature reserves. Probably the best place to start is the Dragonfly Trail at Amwell Nature Reserve. Opened in 2008, it has a 70 metre boardwalk spanning the richest dragonfly habitats in the county. Binoculars and a guide to dragonflies (try the Field Guide to Dragonflies and Damselflies of Great Britain and Ireland by Steve Brooks) will come in very handy.
