The surge in fine dining in Hertfordshire has been reflected in the newly-published AA Restaurant Guide 2020, with 19 businesses in the county qualifying for entry. Acknowledged as among the best listings for top cuisine in Britain, the latest edition contains more than 2,000 restaurants currently awarded Rosettes for culinary excellence by the AA's inspectors.
Herts' entries include a hotel with an Iron Age hill fort in its grounds (Aubrey Park Hotel, Hemel Hempstead), a 17th-century coaching inn (The White Hart, Welwyn) and a former Art Deco cinema (The Gatsby, Berkhamsted). The others are: Down Hall Hotel, Bishop's Stortford; The Stables at The Grove, Chandler's Cross; The Tilbury, Datchworth; The Cavendish, Elstree; Bricklayers Arms, Flaunden; Beales Hotel, Hatfield; Needham House Hotel, Hitchin; The Restaurant at Sopwell House, St Albans; St Michael's Manor, St Albans; Chez Mumtaj, St Albans; THOMPSON, St Albans; Pendley Manor Hotel, Tring; The Wellington, Welwyn; Auberge du Lac, Welwyn; Tewin Bury Farm Hotel, Welwyn GC and The Fox, Willian.
