Mu Mu

108-110 Week Street

The extremely popular Mu Mu on Week Street is not just a restaurant; it’s also a cocktail lounge, a retro-style cinema which you can hire out with your friends, oh and a cabaret bar too. Friday and Saturday evenings brings the ‘Madame Mu Mu House Dinner Party’ and ‘The Grand Dinner Show’ respectively, with a three course meal with the backdrop of “outrageous” cabaret performances, comedy and music.

The brunch menu has lots to sift through with tempting dishes such as the ‘Crab Benedict’; poached eggs on a toasted muffin with fresh white crab meat and hollandaise sauce. Enjoy two hours of bottomless Prosecco, mimosas or Bloody Marys for an additional £18 per person.

Embankments Floating Restaurant

River Medway, Rear of Archbishops Palace

All aboard the barge floating on the River Medway next to the stunning Archbishops Palace, Embankments Floating Restaurant. The interiors are art deco which makes for the perfect backdrop when the jazz and swing entertainment evenings take place.

Whether you just want a peaceful drink on the river or food from the a la carte menu, dishes at Embankments are made with locally sourced ingredients that reflect the best of the season. Visitors love the surf and turf!

Artemis

117 Week Street

Artemis on Week Street is a Greek-style restaurant with authentic cuisine on the menu in a homely taverna with traditional murals decorating the walls. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner or you can hire the restaurant out for a Greek celebration.

We like the sound of chicken souvlaki with marinated chicken in garlic, oregano, olive oil and lemon juice with Greek potatoes, tzatziki and salad; and the paidakia lamb chops in red wine, spices and a fresh rosemary, grilled and served in a mint sauce with potatoes and salad.

Vesuvius

26 Lower Street

Vesuvius is the authentic, family run trattoria serving traditional Italian cuisine on Maidstone’s Lower Street. Daily deliveries of fresh seafood and meat along with authentic Italian ingredients make up the menu of Neapolitan dishes.

There’s lots to try but why not start with calamari served with lemon and chilli mayonnaise, indulge in a spicy main of tomato, chilli and pork spaghetti and it’s got to be a traditional tiramisu to finish.

Fish on the Green

Church Lane, Bearsted Green

Located in the village of Bearsted is Fish on the Green, the fine dining seafood restaurant whose menu of exciting fish and shellfish dishes has landed it a spot in the Michelin Guide.

Order a Kir Royale to sip while poring over the a la carte menu featuring starters such as oysters with bacon, spinach, shallots, Ricard, Tabasco, cream and parmesan, decadent mains such as whole lobster thermidor served in the shell in a rich cream sauce with chips and mange tout, and a toffee apple and hazelnut crumble with vanilla ice cream to finish.

The Hengist

7-9 High Street, Aylesford

Although renovated into a luxurious modern eatery, The Hengist still retains much of its historical appeal with its 16th century exterior, open fireplaces and wooden timbers overhead.

Enjoy casual dining on the ground floor or a slightly more formal atmosphere in the two first floor dining rooms. The brasserie menu, set menu and Sunday lunch options all reflect the seasons. Go for British heritage mains of slow cooked pork cheek with mashed potato and a burnt apple dumpling or lamb rump with braised shallot, minted pea puree and dauphinoise potatoes.

The Mulberry Tree

Hermitage Lane, Boughton Monchelsea

Championing Kentish producers is important to The Mulberry Tree in the village of Boughton Monchelsea – you can see a list of producers on the website. Its use of fine quality ingredients from local, independent companies has earned it high accolades from awarding bodies and in the media.

‘Modern British and European’ is the flavour of the menus with a reasonably priced set menu of two or three courses (£18.50 and £21.50 respectively) packed with meats from Sevenoaks, wines from Horsmonden, cheese from Hawkhurst and fruit and veg from the restaurant’s home village of Boughton Monchelsea.

The Windmill

32 Eyhorne Street, Hollingbourne

In the village of Hollingbourne, close to Leeds Castle (perfect for a day trip!), is The Windmill, the country pub cum fine dining restaurant. The attractive exterior is the perfect backdrop for summer dining in the large garden, or bundle indoors during the colder months for a hearty and warming spread of seasonal food.

The ever-changing menus are packed with fresh seafood, juicy meats and desserts, expertly crafted for the scores of hungry visitors passing through. If you just want a glass of real ale or local Kentish wine, try out the British small plate snacking menu with tempting finger foods such as warm mini chorizo sausages with Worcestershire sauce or crisp Cornish brie with apple chutney.
